During the recent BBC coverage of the Great Manchester Run, production company Filmnova found a great way to include a climate change conversation into the show.
This year, for one of the VTs, Filmnova and the BBC took the decision to feature City of Trees – a Manchester based charity who restore underused, unloved woodland and who are aiming to plant a tree for every person that lives in the City Region, within a generation.
This VT was a simple, yet effective way to incorporate the climate challenge we face into a show without it feeling out of place. The end result was a short and slick segment which not only highlighted the work of the charity but reminded viewers of the importance of native trees to our future well being. Moreover, it provided an optimistic, solution based argument to viewers, rather than simply reminding them of the issues we face.
