Progress Report

Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a Studio Sustainability Progress Report, a first of its kind environmental report for a film, TV, and commercial production facility.

The report details metrics that highlight the studio lot’s environmental progress such as achieving 50% renewable electricity and 25% of the studio lighting inventory meeting energy efficient standards.

In pursuit of Sony’s Road To Zero plan, to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2050, the studio commits to continued improvement.

As a studio lot that caters to Sony Pictures as well as third party productions, the availability of the data will enable film and TV shows to more accurately calculate their carbon footprint. With the publication of this report, Sony hopes to inspire other studios to provide metrics that help support a zero environmental footprint.

Using 2019 data, the report illustrates efforts around energy, water, and waste metrics. The report also highlights the high-impact services the studio provides its clients, including transportation, lighting, various donations, and props and wardrobe reuse.

albert welcomes and supports this step by consortium member Sony Pictures. It follows from the Screen New Deal report published alongside BFI and Arup in 2020 which sets out a vision for what a sustainable film industry could look like.
