- “It’s just the way it is” – why?
- Break bad habits and stop making excuses for bad behaviour
- Be conscious of your actions and the power you have within your department – speak up and take action
- Rather than enforcing rules, enable everyone within a team to make suggestions / to talk about the problems / to address any inconveniences, and to come up with solutions.
- Think laterally – are there ways you could make a significant difference with little hassle, such as by changing energy suppliers?
- Lobby production and producers and ask what initiatives they are taking regarding sustainability – be clear about what your department needs in this regard, ask who their energy suppliers are, could more of their drivers and trucks be run of electricity?
- Lobby suppliers – Keep a record of your suppliers and brands that you shop from, and when you have time blanket email them asking them where their items are being made, whether their workers are being paid fairly, and what their commitments to the environment are. This can make a huge difference whether you get a response or not
