November 12th 2024: he UK TV industry celebrates a successful year for the Climate Content Pledge
Today the UK TV industry has announced a new measurement process to track climate content and provides a comprehensive update on climate content commissions from the past year.

September 12th 2024: Ralph Lee to become first Chair of BAFTA albert
BAFTA albert, the leading sustainability organisation for the screen industries, has announced that Ralph Lee has been appointed its first Chair. This newly created voluntary part time non-executive role is part of a new governance structure established following an organisational review completed in 2023.

August 6th 2024: BAFTA albert 2023 annual review shows more productions committed to sustainability than ever before
Today the BAFTA albert 2023 annual review was released, detailing progress made by the film and TV industries in improving environmental sustainability. The report also looks at BAFTA albert’s strategic progress over the same period and details priorities for the coming year.

May 8th 2024: New report details how studios from across the world are coming together to tackle climate change
BAFTA albert has today released the second annual Studio Sustainability Standard report, detailing how 29 studios, from across the globe, are committing to sustainability and driving innovations to help build a net zero society.

November 21 2023: The Screen New Deal Transformation Plan for Wales sets out plans for addressing energy use and waste
BAFTA albert today outlined the key recommendations from the Screen New Deal (SND) Transformation Plan for Wales, seeing out a path to a sustainable future for the film and high-end
television industries alongside its second annual Production Summit, held today in Cardiff.
This landmark report covers the changes to transport, energy use, waste and culture needed to meet
net zero targets, distilling these actions into a clear timeline.

September 21 2023: albert launches biodiversity guide for productions
BAFTA albert, the leading screen industry organisation for environmental sustainability has today launched an in depth guide for those in the screen industry who want to reduce their impact on biodiversity in every area of production from planning to props.

July 5 2023: Studio sustainability data revealed by BAFTA albert
BAFTA albert, the film and TV consortium for sustainability, has today released its Studio Sustainability Standard Report, providing analysis on sustainability data from studios across the UK and USA.
Drawing from data submitted from 12 participating studios across 2021/22, the Studio Sustainability Standard Report provides analysis of the current collective impact and efforts reduce them of the studios – as well as a roadmap towards a resilient and sustainable entertainment industry.

9 June 2023: albert enters a first of its kind international partnership with Sustainable Screens Australia (SSA)
BAFTA albert, the leading organisation for environmental sustainability in the screen industries, and Sustainable Screens Australia (SSA), the Australia based, industry-led initiative addressing the growing need to reduce the screen industry’s environmental impact, have announced a first of its kind partnership. The albert Toolkit, comprising a carbon calculator created by and for the screen industries and albert’s Carbon Action Plan framework will be localized for the Australian market. Under a new albert admin license, the Australian screen sector will be able to establish its own sustainability standards or certification processes using the albert tools.
16 May 2023: albert and BFI partner for film industry sustainability
The BFI today announces funding to two industry leaders to provide a range of resources to help industry tackle the climate and ecological crisis. and albert has been awarded £286,955 and Julie’s Bicycle have been awarded £299,800 of National Lottery funding over three years (2023-2026) through the new BFI National Lottery Sustainable Screen Fund to support all BFI National Lottery awardees in building environmental understanding and action on positive environmental change.

albert, the TV and film industry organisation for environmental sustainability, has awarded 12 studios with the first year of the Studio Sustainability Standard badges in recognition of their commitment to sustainability.

15 Nov 2022: Climate Content Pledge one year on has driven increase in sustainable content
albert has today published an update from the largest media brands in the UK and Ireland on the progress of the Climate Content Pledge, one year after it was signed alongside COP26 in Glasgow.

7th April 2022: Studio Sustainability Standard Launched
A new scheme has launched today to help studios measure and reduce the environmental impact of their facilities. The global, voluntary scheme has been designed by albert, alongside global engineering and consulting firm Arup.

3rd Nov 2021: Media CEOs Pledge to Help Audiences Navigate Climate Change
In an industry first, 12 broadcasters and streamers have signed up to The Climate Content Pledge . The signatories – who represent over 70% of time UK audiences spend watching TV and film – are committing to using their content to help audiences understand what tackling climate change might mean for them, as well as inspire and inform sustainable choices.

27th Oct 2021: Broadcasters collaborate at COP26 to show the power of television to inspire climate action
An inspiring programme of events for COP26 is planned by BBC, C4, ITV, SKY and STV with BAFTA’s albert, alongside sustainability partner Natural Capital Partners. These events will showcase the UK broadcasters’ radical collaboration in sustainability through albert both on and off screen, for the past decade, and will be available for live streaming to a wider audience.

15th Sep 2021: BAFTA albert releases its third ‘Subtitles to Save The World’ report
albert releases its third ‘Subtitles to Save the World’ report looking at how often climate change and our solutions to tackling it were mentioned on our TV screens in 2020.
Climate change mentions have decreased slightly since 2019 during a turbulent year which reflects the impact of lockdown on both the TV production industry and wider society.
Words associated with positive individual actions have increased but there are fewer associated with the systemic change needed to help us reach net zero.

Producers, directors, script writers and creatives from across the film and television world were invited to an evening at 194 Piccadilly to learn more about the new resource, ‘Planet Placement’ which is challenging the film and television industry to put climate at the heart of on screen content.

29th May 2014: Shed Media, NBCUniversal & UKTV join albert Consortium
BAFTA announces that Shed Media, NBCUniversal International Television Production and UKTV will join the BAFTA Albert Consortium, the industry body for environmental sustainability within television production. The three companies join existing members ITV, Sky, BBC, Channel 4, Kudos, IMG, Twofour, Endemol and all3media.

25th Mar 2014: Greenstone partnership announcement
BAFTA announces a new partnership between the albert Consortium, responsible for the industry carbon calculator, and Greenstone, a leading provider of non-financial reporting solutions. The partnership will see the redevelopment of the albert carbon calculator, enabling better carbon reporting for television and film productions.

13th Nov 2012: BAFTA reveals impacts of first year of albert at Greening the Screen event
Senior executives from organisations including the BBC, ITV, Sky, Microsoft, Sony and Warner Bros. attended “Greening the Screen: taking steps to a sustainable future”. Kevin Price, Chief Operating Officer at BAFTA, who gave an update on the progress of Albert – the UK’s first carbon calculator for the film and television industry – a year after launch.

22nd Aug 2011: BAFTA announces launch of albert carbon calculator
BAFTA is leading a consortium which has developed the ‘Albert’ carbon calculator for the TV production community. Born at the BBC, ‘Albert’ was originally created by former BBC journalist, Richard Smith, (now the BBC Sustainable Production Manager).
